Your account

Provide an email address you control and protect access to your email, passkeys, devices, and vault recovery key. You are responsible for activity under your account. Contact us at hello@chargedalpha.com if you believe the account is compromised.

Your journal

You retain ownership of the words, recordings, and images you add. In the current device-only mode, journal content is stored locally on your device and is not transmitted to Today Was servers. Today Was does not claim a license to read or use journal content for advertising or model training.

If you used a release from before device-only storage, an older encrypted cloud copy may remain for authenticated migration and permanent removal. The current app writes new journal content only to the local vault. During a temporary compatibility grace period, an already-open older release may still finish an encrypted legacy write; that path is permanently retired before legacy deletion is enabled.

Purchases and Weather & Atlas

On Android, you can save up to 10 journal days free and add more moments to an existing saved day. Full Journal is a one-time purchase that permanently unlocks additional journal days and includes 12 months of account-verified Weather & Atlas. Weather & Atlas is an optional monthly or annual service for ongoing commercial weather and Atlas features after that included period, where offered in the app. It is separate from the permanent Full Journal unlock.

Apple and Google process purchases, renewals, cancellations, and refunds under their applicable terms. Cancelling Weather & Atlas stops future renewal and paid-service access; it does not delete or alter your saved journal entries, transcripts, recordings, photos, weather snapshots, pins, or exports. Store purchases are separate between Apple and Google unless we expressly provide a verified cross-platform entitlement service.

To restore an applicable store benefit or authorize the paid weather relay, Today Was may retain limited account-bound, store-verified entitlement metadata. It does not receive payment card details or a license to access journal content through a purchase.

Weather, maps, and third-party services

Optional weather and location features are provided through Open-Meteo, Esri, Apple Maps, Google Maps, an Android map app, and related device services only when you choose to use them. An active, server-verified Weather & Atlas entitlement authorizes Today Was's authenticated relay to temporarily process the requested rounded location or city and date in order to request weather from Open-Meteo Professional. We do not use those inputs as journal content or persist them in the account database, commerce records, journal, or application analytics/logs.

Weather data are supplied by Open-Meteo under the CC BY 4.0 license. We may format, aggregate, convert units, and visualize returned data, but Open-Meteo does not endorse Today Was. Weather and map information can be incomplete, delayed, or inaccurate and is not for safety-critical decisions. Third-party providers process requests under their own terms and privacy notices.

Acceptable use

Do not use the service to break the law, violate another person's rights, distribute malware, probe or disrupt the service, evade security controls, or access another person's account or data.

Recovery and exports

Journal content is encrypted in the device vault, and normal app operation does not upload that content to the publisher. The publisher does not receive or store the recovery key and cannot reset it. A recovery key contains no memories and is not a backup. Keep an independent copy of both the recovery key and a current encrypted journal backup. Email access or a recovery key alone cannot recreate an existing journal on a new device.

Service availability

We work to keep Today Was reliable, but no online service is uninterrupted or error-free. Browser speech recognition and notifications depend on device and browser capabilities. Today Was is not an emergency, medical, mental-health, or records-retention service.

Suspension and termination

You may stop using Today Was or delete your account at any time. The publisher may limit or terminate access when reasonably necessary to address abuse, security risk, legal obligations, or material violations of these terms.

Disclaimers and liability

To the extent permitted by law, Today Was is provided “as is” and without implied warranties. The publisher is not liable for indirect or consequential loss. Nothing here excludes rights or liability that cannot legally be excluded in your jurisdiction.

Changes

These terms may change as the service evolves. Material changes will be accompanied by an updated effective date and an appropriate product notice. Continued use after the change takes effect means you accept the revised terms.

Governing law and contact
